Does my data ever leave my device?

No. Parsing, scanning, and redaction all run inside your browser tab using local JavaScript. Your file is never uploaded to a server, and the clean version is produced on your machine. The only thing that touches our servers is your account and export count — never your document content.

What does "zero-knowledge architecture" mean here?

Accepted Answer

It means we are structurally unable to see your documents. There is no upload endpoint for file content, no server-side parsing step, and no copy of your text in our database. Even with full access to our infrastructure, we could not reconstruct what you scanned or redacted.

Do you store my documents or scan results?

Accepted Answer

No. Documents, scan findings, entity lists, and redacted output all live in the browser tab and disappear when you close or reload it. We store only account details, plan status, and how many exports you've used this month.

Is this suitable for regulated data like PHI or privileged material?

Accepted Answer

It is designed for exactly that situation: material you cannot paste into a hosted AI tool as-is. Because nothing leaves the device, there is no third-party processor handling the raw content. You remain the data controller, so review the output before you use it, and confirm the workflow against your own policy, DPA, or bar association guidance.

What does the AI Leak Scanner detect?

Four families of risk. Identity: names, dates of birth, national IDs, passport and licence numbers, medical record numbers. Contact & geo: emails, phone numbers, street addresses, postcodes, IPs. Financial & corporate: card and routing numbers, monetary amounts, account references. Secrets & credentials: API keys, access tokens, JWTs, private keys, internal hostnames.

What file types can the De-identifier handle?

Plain text, Markdown, CSV, and PDF, plus anything you paste directly. Files are capped at 8 MB, 80 PDF pages, and 200,000 characters so the browser tab stays responsive. Scanned image-only PDFs need OCR, which is a Pro feature.

How accurate is the redaction — can I review before exporting?

Yes, and you should. Every detected entity is highlighted in the original document with its category, and you see the full risk report plus a sample of the clean output before you export. Detection is pattern- and context-based, so unusual formats can be missed — the review step is part of the workflow, not an afterthought.

Can I customize what gets redacted?

Accepted Answer

On Pro, yes. You can add custom redaction rules, keyword and company-IP blacklists, and saved entity profiles you reuse across documents, along with the HIPAA, Legal/NDA, and PCI-DSS rule sets. The free and Starter plans use the standard rule set.

What counts as an export?

Accepted Answer

One export is one time you produce the clean version of a document — downloading it, copying it to your clipboard, saving it as a PDF, or handing it to the email drafter. Loading a document, scanning it, and reviewing the findings never count.

Are scans really unlimited on the free plan?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Scanning and the full risk report are free and unlimited, forever, with no account required. The paid plans exist for producing and exporting the redacted output.

What happens when I hit my export limit?

Accepted Answer

The clean version simply isn't generated — you keep the scan, the entity list, and a short preview of the redacted text. You'll be offered a couple of extra free exports, and after that the upgrade options for your situation.

Can I change or cancel plans anytime?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Open Billing in the app and pick another plan, and proration is handled automatically in the secure customer portal. Cancelling keeps your paid features until the end of the current billing period.

Do unused exports roll over?

No. Export allowances reset each month on a rolling basis from your signup date, and unused exports don't carry forward.

How does Team seat billing work?

Accepted Answer

Team is $300 per month and includes 3 seats. Additional seats are $50 per month each and can be added or removed as your team changes. Annual billing saves 20%.

What's in the audit log and can I export it?

Accepted Answer

The audit log records who redacted a document, when, which rule set and redaction style were used, and how many entities were neutralized — metadata only, never document content. Team admins get an org-wide view and can export it for compliance reporting.

Can admins enforce redaction policy across a team?

Accepted Answer

Yes. On Team, admins publish shared redaction rule libraries and enforce policy so redaction cannot be switched off by individual members, with usage visibility across the org in the admin console.

What does the Gmail extension do?

It brings the same redaction pipeline into the Gmail compose and reply windows. Paste your notes, review the before/after preview, and send a clean draft — without switching tabs. It works in any Chromium browser: Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc, and Opera.

Which plan includes it?

Pro and above. The extension checks your plan when it starts, so an active Pro or Team subscription is required to generate inside Gmail.
